Josh Gillooly Happy for a wonderful Taste of the Valley. The event had to be pulled together faster than any previous event and is a real testament to the club. We may have also raised more money than ever before.
Bob Cave was approached by a number of members to congratulate him on the sale of his house. (Editors note: Names in the newspaper are supposed to be a fine. Failure to collect a fine is a fine for the Sergeant-at-Arms. I assume both will correct this oversight at our next meeting :-}) Bob also reported that Hank Fry, who has been ill, is doing very well but still needs to stay away from crowds.
Thor Cheyne was happy to be back at Rotary. They were supposed to be in Sarasota, FL for the month of February but decided to stay through March.
Larry Sullivan told a joke with his usual impeccable delivery.
Dale Bronson talked about his grand daughter Bella in honor of her 7th birthday. While he loves all his grand children Bella has a special place in his heart. She was at the age where she liked to be held, when he was at his sickest and cuddling her helped him more then words can say.
TOTV
Unsold auction items from the Taste were offered to the club. Larry Sullivan and Colleen Gardino did the mini auction at which several members were able to get a bargain at the reserve price.

Read to a Child
Read to a Child in Connecticut’s Lunchtime Reading Program began in Hartford in 1998. Supported by nearly 200 corporate and community volunteers, the Program today serves over 140 kindergarten through grade four at-risk children in Hartford, New Britain, and New Haven public schools. Keenly aware of the ongoing, critical need to build literacy skills and a love of reading and books in these young students,
Gina shared some eye-opening statistics. 80% of low income children do not read at grade level by 4th grade. Till 4th grade you are learning to read, after 4th grade you need reading to learn subject matters. This is a setup for failure. Currently Read to Children, which is a national organization, has 200 CT volunteers and is reading to 170 children through the lunch time reading program. They need more volunteers as they have a wait list of children. Simple reading out loud to a child helps. 95% of the children in the program show improvement in reading and vocabulary skills.
