S. Ted Lin
Recovering 5000 Years of Chinese Culture

Ted Lin is an engineer with United Technologies.  He had a return engagement to speak to us about the effort of a group of Chinese-Americans to recover the lost Chinese Culture. The group was organized in 2006 to promote the Chinese performing arts through a program of music and dance called Shen Yun.
This year's performance in our area will be on December 22-23 at the Palace Theatre in Waterbury. Tickets for the performance and several videos of the show can be found on the Palace Theatre's website at:  Shen Yun 2018

Ted explained the genesis of the ancient Chinese culture through the teachings of Taoism, Buddhism and Confusianism. Ted remarked how closely our 4-way test follows these philosophies, especially the first test - Is it the Truth?

In 1949 Mao Tse Tung led the Cultural Revolution which completely destroyed the ancient culture of China by suppressing intellectualism, free though and the expression of dance and music. The history of 20 dynasties and 55 ethnic groups was lost for years. The Shen Yun Performing Arts  programs work to restore this lost culture through their performances around the world and the United States.

The performances feature a live dorchester and hundreds of dancers and performers wearing the cultural dress of the 55 ethnic groups. Plays and dances feature many aspects of the 20 dynasties that existed throughout China's past history.

“The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do”:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all Concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
