Rollie Sterrett - moaned about Colgates loss to Princeton, but was happy to be off on his 15th annual bone fishing trip to the Bahamas. He said the best trip was to Venezuela.
Peter Vignati - He and his wife were heading off to Snow Mass for a skiing trip. He was proud to announce that Fortune 500 list had Edward Jones listed as #5.
Don Bonner - was in Orlando for golf with 12 friends for limited golf due to the weather (or so he says).
Larry Sullivan - was happy to see Stan Krzanowski and praised him for working behind the scenes for Canton Little League for the past 35 years.
Jolly Lux - was sitting at the table with Morgan Roberts and our speaker, Kathy McAfee.  Jolly was very appreciative of the work Morgan does to help women with fashion in the work place.
Heather Pantano - thanked Gary Miller for filling in as Sgt-at-Arms next week and then told a sad tale of a young mother and friend who had a heart attack recently at 34.  Thankfully she survived.
Colleen Grasso - reminded everyone about the need for raffle prizes, especially baskets for the TOTV raffle.

Announcements

4/1: Taste of the Valley

Colleen Grasso announced that the auction committee is encouraging members to consider obtaining items that could be combined in baskets for the auction. If you are in touch with a merchant who has something appropriate for this effort, it would be appreciated.

Salin Low - Wine Pull: Each member is asked to give $20. The wine will be purchased at M&R. Getting the case rate makes our effort go further. We need to raise $1200 to have a fun and profitable event. Several people have been making bags for the bottles. Members not at a meeting can send the $20 to Salin at 12 Meadowview Court, Canton 06019.

Hank Frey introduced his Canton High School classmate, Stan Krzanowski, who was on the championship baseball team with Hank back in the sixties. Stan and Bob Barnes, President of the Canton Little League, were here today to receive a check for $400 to renew the Rotary 4x8 sign at the Canton Little League field.  We have been steady supporters of the Little League in Canton for over 25 years.  Bob was proud that volunteers did all the work of maintaining the fields and coaching the teams.

Stop Global Boring

Kathy's topic for today was Stop Global Boring. She related a story about her first client, who was an executive tasked with preparing a presentation in Paris in a few days.  Her first question was, "How many slides to you have?" As two administrative assistants were furiously banging away on their laptops, he said, "156 so far!"  Kathy asked him how long the presentation would be.  He said, "20 minutes."  When she asked him what is key message was, he had to ask his two assistants.  They didn't know.  Kathy's advice was to start with one slide with the key message and then proceed from that point.

Kathy is trying to eliminate PowerPoint abuse--hundreds of wordy slides with no clear message or focus.  She suggests using only one point per slide if you must use PowerPoint at all.  When you consider all the wasted personnel hours preparing presentations, travel and hotel bills, most presentations are a waste of money.  She suggest trying meetings with no PP slides.

Kathy suggest starting with a clean sheet of paper to prepare a presentation.  She has a tool that can be downloaded from her website:  Clean Sheet Thinking

Kathy finished her presentation by offering a copy of her book to anyone at each table with the matching playing card.  The card she chose was a 10. Her book Stop Global Boring was for sale for $20 at the meeting.
