Birthdays

Ted Cowles celebrated his birthday on July 20.  Ted has been a member of our Rotary club since the 1990s.  After retiring from a career with the Travelers he did something he always wanted to do by opening Red Oak Landscaping.  Ted has been an active volunteer with the Canton Land Trust and  the Appalachian Mountain Club.  In Rotary he was the mover and chief worker behind the club's building of two shelters on the hiking and biking trails as well as the construction at Roaring Brook Nature Center.

Happy Dollars

Larry Haber was happy that he was having his 11 year old grand daughter coming to stay for a week.

Bruce Sayward  wanted the club to know that he is finishing up placing the Rotary Club signs on the FAVAR vehicles and what a great group they are to work with.

Gary Roman was happy for his 2 day old granddaughter Morgan 7 lbs 10 oz and 21 1/2 inches long.

Gary Miller had a great time with 50+ family members at the VA part of the outer banks.

Bob Cave had fun with 15 family members at the Jersey Shore

Peter Vignati had a great trip with his wife and one of his sons to Edinburgh Scotland.  He noted that he flew out of Bradley and it was a great deal.  He wore a kilt to a dinner but refused to provide a copy for the newsletter.

Salin Low went to Saratoga Springs and went to the races and then went to NYC where she did a lot of sightseeing including the 9/11 museum.

Craig Buhrendorf is going to visit friends in NH and then meeting his family down in RI.

Rollie Sterrett noted that he had seen the FAVOR vans and was very impressed with the Rotary signs that were on all 3 sides of the vehicle.

Announcements

Nancy Nation remained every one that she and Craig would once again be hosting the Pencil Box party at their home on Thursday, August 24th at 5:30.

President Don asked Tom Voorhees to tell the club what he was doing with the $1,000 Nancy Nation district award.  After speaking with the teacher of the class that Rotary has adopted, he will be purchasing 20+ Fire 7 tablets for the classroom.

Gary Hyde spoke about a benefit for Cystic Fibrous which will take place on 8/25 at Simsbury High School.  Tickets are $20.  Contact Gary for more information

President Don announced that club would be moving to a magnetic name tag for members.  The cost of the name tag will be around $7 a tag and we will ask members to pay for them.

Nancy Nation indicated that 8/18 is the deadline for bulletin ads.  Since we are not going to need to cook or clean the kitchen this year, go out and get ads.

Larry Sullivan spoke about the need to try and ensure that all the golf advertisers from the last 2 years are taken contacted.  There is also a new opportunity to have your company Logo imprinted on a sleeves of golf balls.  More information will be sent in an e-mail.

“The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do”:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all Concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
