Guiding Light Orphans

Club members Kurt and Jolly Lux reported on the work of the Guiding Light Orphans, Inc. (GLO) and their recent Uganda Mission Trip.   Since the Avon/Canton Rotary Club first supported their work in 2014 GLO has been able to help many people.  At their first medical clinic they had 500 people in attendance.  10 months later they served 4,000 people in their second medical camp.  In November of 2015, they were able to install a water system to collect and hold rain water, which now supplies clean water to 400 families.  In 2016 and they started turning a 40 foot shipping container into a 4 section clinic that included an exam room, laboratory, patient rest area, and a drug storage area.

They also reported back to the club on the young lady Christine whose grandmother brought her to the clinic with Spinal Bifida.  After much soul searching because of the cost and difficulty of helping her they jumped in and are seeing her blossom and grow.

GLO has done an amazing job of helping and empowering folks as they provided the tools and training for the community to take care of their health needs.  They want to say.

In addition to missing a great presentation, those of you not in attendance missed a beautiful venue and a perfect New England morning.

“The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do”:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all Concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
