Birthdays

Ann Clark was celebrating a birthday. When not involved in Rotary or work for the Town of Avon, Ann is a member of the Avon Garden Club. She loves Rotary, especially our Friday morning meetings. Ann presented her Rotary Foundation check.

President Don Bonner presented a Rotary pin to Salvatore Pantano, 4 month old son of Secretary Heather Pantano. Sal is the third member of the Avon-Canton Rotortots. Sal joins is sister, AJ, in Rotortots. He and his sister are destined for greater heights in Rotary. Their great uncle is our two-time Past District Governor Frank Wargo.

President Don Bonner called our longest serving member, Bob Cave, to the front of the room prior to the Pledge of Allegiance. Don announced that the old felt club banner was being retired and replaced with a new pop-up banner this morning. Bob removed the old banner, while Don raised the new club vertical banner.

Joanne Santiago was very happy to be back at our meetings again. She thanked Capri for the wonderful dinner at Miller Foods on Tuesday and was grateful for getting a ride to the dinner with Sue Budde.

Salin Low was happy to have Joanne back at our meetings and thanked Capri for the joyful dinner on Tuesday night at Miller Foods.

Gary Miller had a happy dollar from Capri he used to thank her for the fabulous dinner. He also said that he would be in Baton Rouge next week for Christmas.

Capri Frank thanked everyone for coming to the dinner. Her aunt loves cooking and entertaining for Rotary. Capri was going off to NYC with 50 friends and relatives for the grand roof-top proposal for cousin.

Announcements

Don introduced Carrie Firestone, an Avon resident, who was visiting our meeting this morning. She and several other Avon residents are organizing support for the 400 Puerto Rican children who have enrolled in the Hartford schools since the hurricane. All of these children need warm winter coats and many other essentials. She has been successful gathering the coats from many generous donors. She had received a check for $500 which she presented to the Hartford Public Schools Welcome Center. They were overjoyed. She is currently working on over 200 gift bags for the children. She said she needed $2000 for Stop and Shop gift cards for the families.

Bruce Sayward participated in a teleconference call with Mike Mezheritskiy and Scott Nardozzi concerning the new Rotary Means Business networking groups that are being formed. We had Bennett Ford, District Coordinator, at last week's meeting to introduce the program. Bruce will keep us informed on the progress for anyone that is interested.

Rollie Sterrett announced the meeting of the By-Laws Committee following the singers.

Dale Bronson said that the FAVARH Initiative Committee would also be meeting.

Gary Roman introduced Bob Barnes and Stan Krzanowski from the Canton Little League to receive a check for $250 to renew the Rotary sign board at the Little League field. The Canton Little League was chartered in 1953 and currently services about 300 boys and girls with baseball and softball programs. The 65th season will start in the spring ushering in a new rule requiring new bats. The funds are used to lower the cost of registration, provide scholarships, and for field improvements.

Hank Frey reported that our bellringers raised $3,114.15 for the Salvation Army.
Main Presentation

The Avon High School select choir--The Camerata Singers--directed by Andrew Brochu, entertained our members in the lobby from the spiral staircase. They sung a selection of traditional carols and other material. Andrew encouraged the audience to join in on the choruses.

“The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do”:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all Concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
