Ike Eickenhorst - is a 20+ year member of the Club. He was sponsored originally by Brian O'Donnell. Ike recollects that he sat next to Rollie Sterrett the first time he attended a meeting. Ike, who lives in Canton with his wife Joanna, states that he enjoys Rotary and looks forward to many more years in the Club.

Larry Haber - after the meeting, Larry will be leaving for Florida.
Rollie Sterrett - leaves Saturday, the 12th, for the Bahamas. He is looking forward to bone fishing there. Rollie also shared some quotes from Bob Hope.
Jolly Lux - received a letter from Governor Kyong asking her to write a story for the District Newsletter about her missionary work in Uganda. (See the District Newsletter which was e-mailed yesterday, 3/15).
Ted Cowles - this year's warm winter brought about unusual circumstances. Namely, last year's sap season started March 10th. This year's sap season finished March 11th. Ted and family ended up with 60 gallons of maple syrup.
Chris Heath - got to see her granddaughter from Seattle.
Gary Miller - at the request of former Club member Dick Kiesel, Gary is teaching a class to "15 school superintendent wannabes."

TOTV - Updates
"Let’s really crank up the ticket sales now – critical!!" Don Bonner
Salin Low has stated the deadline for bringing in bottles of wine, or donations for bottles of wine, will be Friday, March 18th. The wine is needed for the "Wine Pull" at TOTV. To date, one third of our membership has made a donation of money or wine.
Gary Hyde has been passing out TOTV tickets for members to sell. In Gary's absence, the tickets will be with Robin DiNicola. Also, see Gary when you have ticket money to turn in. If you and your friends would like to purchase VIP tickets, see Chuck Joseph.
Steve Roberto, co-chair of TOTV, is looking for help with the auction. Volunteers are needed. Items are needed. Steve urges members to go back to the merchants who have given the past. Steve intends to bundle items so that they have more wow factor than they would on their own.

Evan Cooper - asserted that her chickens have started producing eggs again, so eggs will be for sale at the Friday morning meetings. Evan's company, Morningstar, will match dollar for dollar however much money the egg sales bring in.

Rotary Pub Night
The April Rotary Pub Night will be held April 5th at Abigail's. You may check out the Abigail's menu at abigailsgrill.com.
RPN is all about socializing, networking and getting to know your fellow Rotarians and their guests better. Bring your spouses, significant others, partners, friends, prospective Rotarians, etc.

Bike Trail Cleanup Day
Every year the Farmington Valley Trails Council holds its annual trail clean-up day. Since many of our members use the trail to walk, run and cycle, I thought we could put some Rotarians out on the trail during the cleanup on Sunday, April 17th. The event runs from 10 AM to 2 PM and ends with a cookout at Flamig Farm for all volunteers.

Bike-a-thon on Friday, April 29
Paul Mikkelson has announced that there will be a two-hour bike-a-thon at the Granby YMCA on Friday, April 29th. Paul will be the leader, and he promises an easy ride. (Generally the lights are low, so no one knows if you have any tension on your bike or not.) We will ride stationary bikes in half-hour increments. The cost to ride is $20 per half hour. The money raised will go to World Bicycle Relief.
Don't Forget!! The Club Bike Ride will be May 14th.
Be at Sperry Park at noon. The group will head north on the Rails to Trails path. See Paul Mikkelson for further details.

In his professional life, Paul helps companies improve their profitability. He is a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan and holds an MBA from Purdue. Paul is involved in several non-profits, and is very active in the Canton Chamber of Commerce. He moved to Connecticut in 2014. He has been residing in Vernon. He is in the process of moving to Farmington. Paul's sponsor is Phil Worley.

Habitat for Humanity (Northwest CT)
Dawn Whalen, Executive Director of the Northwest CT Habitat for Humanity, clarified that the common image of Habitat for Humanity perpetually building houses is not accurate. Occasionally, a new house is built on property that has been donated, but that's secondary. Most of the group's efforts involve helping people with some resources to buy and fix up an affordable house they can call home. Habitat for Humanity buys and repairs a house and sells the improved house to the "partner family" with no interest charged.
Eligible families cannot make more than $54,000 annually (60% of the area's average annual income).
The Northwest CT affiliate is celebrating its 25th anniversary. It's area includes Canaan, Falls Village, Cornwall, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury and Sharon. All of the families who gained a house thanks to Northwest CT Habitat for Humanity still live in their houses. No one has moved.
Nationally, Habitat for Humanity has helped 6.8 million people become homeowners since its beginning in 1976.
