Birthdays

Kathleen Parr (8/29) was thrilled with how the club has responded to the auction.  She was in Scotland two weeks ago and then had out of town guests and is just happy to be back.

President Heather is celebrating her birthday today.  It is her 4th year being in the club and I look forward to being here every Friday as this is my family away from my family.  She also announced that her birthday present was a new house in Simsbury to accommodate her growing family.

Special Presentation

Former member and egg lady, Evan Cooper was able to obtain a $500 donation from her employer Bearingstar Insurance.  When Evan worked in their Avon office they were a supporter of our golf tournament and through Evan’s efforts they continue to support our work.

Happy Dollars

Alicia Canning $4 took 2 of her granddaughter to the cape for a week and then rented a house in South Carolina where she had all 7 grandkids together for the first time in several years.  This Friday, her daughter went for a PET scan while she watched the kids and she is happy to report that the scan was clear.

Evan Cooper $5 exciting for her to be back.  She and her husband have been married 3 5 years this past summer and they just got back from the Azores and Portugal where she went swimming with the dolphins.  Absolutely Fabulous.  Her son Ben is back from Africa and his spent the summer at Yellowstone working with the Youth Conservation Core.  He wants to make a career in the Park Service in some kind of youth leadership role.   She also announces that she is a new grandma.

Sue Biddle $2 Thanked the club for being incredible supportive after the death of her mother.  Sue’s new grandson who is 4 months old will be visiting her next week from CA with parents in tow.

Bill Barnes $3 is happy to see our guest speaker Linda as he has not seen her in 15 years since she was the development officer at Bristol Hospital.  Bill and his wife will be celebrating 62 years of marriage this month with a dinner at the Hopkins Inn.  Bill also shared some pithy messages taken from church signs such as:

Bethany Lutheran Church
God didn't create anything without a purpose. But mosquitoes come close.

First Covenant Church:
Don't give up. Moses was once a basket case.

First Presbyterian Church:
Do not criticize your wife's judgment - Look who she married.

Linda McGurn (guest speaker) talked about that she and Bill Barnes were both in the Bristol Rotary Club together for 9 years.

Don Bonner was thanking everybody for getting there ads in.  The cover of the ad book was going to feature the new sign in front of the FAVAR building, but the stones fell off the sign as it was being installed.  We have decided to switch the cover to information from the Charity Navigator which rates the Rotary Foundation as one of the top 3 charities in the World.

“The FOUR-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do”:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all Concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
