Happy Dollars

Rollie Sterrett - updated that Nancy Nation probably will have replacement surgery on both knees. He passed around a card for Nancy that everyone could sign.

Gary Roman - was pleased to announce that he has hired Steve Roberto to work at Collinsville Savings Bank. Steve will be a mortgage loan originator.

Larry Sullivan - was impressed at how dressed up Steve Roberto was. Additionally, Larry learned yesterday that the teenaged Phil Worley used to disconnect the odometer on his dad's car so that Dad wouldn't realize how many miles Phil was actually driving.

Salin Low - spurred on by Larry's revelations about Phil, Salin recollected that her sister used to say to her parents "I'd love to come home, but I'm out of miles."

Steve Roberto - vowed to check the odometer on the car he bought last month from Larry. Steve is very excited about his new job at Collinsville Savings Bank.

Gary Miller - President Gary explained that he once was on a jury for a case that involved disconnecting odometers.

Dale Bronson - shared that Steve Harris is in Florida with his mother and probably will be there until mid-March. Steve sends his best to all. Dale also detailed that Ben Dunning's back surgery on Tuesday (1/19) had gone well.

Paul Mikkelson - fell off his mountain bike this past week and broke two bones in his right foot. Paul welcomed all of the day's guests and urged our two prospective members to seriously consider joining the Club.

Ben Dunning returned to his Burlington home on January 22nd after the completion of his latest back surgery. The operation went relatively quickly, but was complicated. The procedure was done in New York City. Ben posted on Facebook (January 25) that he is still experiencing pain. He can't wait for the pain to go away. We are all rooting for you, Ben!!!

President Gary presented Joanne Santiago with her Paul Harris + 4 pin. There are four sapphires on the pin. Such pins are awarded based on individual contributions to the Rotary Foundation. Joanne is the Club's Rotary Foundation Committee Chair.

Avon-Canton Foundation Contributions

PDG Karen Andrews, who is the chair of the District 7890 Foundation Committee recently congratulated President Gary. The Club has already shot past the $10,000 mark at the half way point of the Rotary Year.

Important Information About Your Tickets

Dear Rotarians,

I spoke to Courtney Perzan the Wolf Pack Rep, and you have to buy tickets in advance from her so they will have them at "Will Call". Her phone number is: 860-541-4729. You can pay her on the phone and then pick up your tickets at the "Will Call" booth. I have already sent her an email with your name and the number of people going, so she will know who you are.

Dinner is at 5:30 at the Coliseum Club, upstairs. YOU NEED TO PICK UP YOUR TICKETS FIRST, to get thru the security door to the restaurant. If you come in from Trumball St. you take the escalator to your right (up), and there are (2) big wooden doors on your left. Go thru and show your tickets, and proceed upstairs. Remember - only ticket holders can use the restaurant .

We should be about 18 people for the game and 14 people for dinner.

Speakers - Not Woofers, Not Tweeters

Hello,

We are in need of speakers. We are booked through March 4th and open beyond that date.

Please give some thought to people and groups that you think we would enjoy hearing from. While we are not interested in someone selling or at least trying to, we are open to hearing about products, services and hobbies. In the past year we've had great programs about wine and 3-D printing as examples.

We have a varied group of members with a lot going on in their lives. I'm sure people can bring forward some interesting speakers and subjects.

If you have never brought in a speaker or it's been a while, please help us out.

If you have any questions just contact me and we'll talk about it.

Hi!! How Are You?

Dear Rotarians:

Consistent with what many Rotary Clubs around the world do, our Membership Committee would like to appoint two members who would volunteer to be Club Greeters for each month of the year. So far, Ann and Len have signed up for March and Steve Roberto has volunteered for April. Tom and Mike have offered to do it when needed.

Now we need about 18 more members to step up and volunteer to take the job for a month. Our Rotarians who have been greeters say they enjoy doing it---and they really do make our members and guests feel welcome! There's one requirement: you need to show up by about 7:20 a.m. latest. That's because most of our members arrive between 7:20 and 7:30 a.m.

Dear District 7890 Members - Get Ready!!

The District Conference is planned for April 29 to May 1st at the Cape Codder Resort & Spa in Hyannis, MA. Our theme is Hawaii 7890.

The Cape Codder Resort & Spa is right off the highway and offers convenient parking. We plan to begin on Friday evening at 6 pm with a cocktail hour followed by a delicious Luau dinner.

We are also planning an exciting evening of entertainment. More to come on that.

On Saturday our general session at will begin at 9:00 am with registration and breakfast starting at 7:30 am. Saturday will be filled with exciting breakouts, as well as our Rotaract Conference. If you have a Rotaract Club or are thinking of starting one, be sure to be part of this. Youth exchange students and the South African VTT teams will also be presenting.

It’s been a great year for District 7890 and we plan to celebrate with fellowship and informative breakout sessions. And if anyone can inspire enthusiasm, it's our Rotaractors, Youth exchange students, and VTT teams; they’re an exciting bunch.

District & Global Grants

In order for our club to remain eligible to participate in the District and Global Grants program we need to maintain a cadre of members that have completed the annual refresher training. Please review the following information. If you are available on either of the two dates and would like to know more about how we can access our Foundation donations to leverage club projects, please sign up for one of the webinars.

In order for Rotary Clubs to qualify for District and Global grants, two people from your club must be qualified by attending a Grant Qualification Webinar. This year we are combining the District and Global Grant qualification into one webinar. Attendance by 2 members from your club is part of the qualification process in order to apply for grants for the 2016-2017 Rotary year.

Attendees can register for one of two webinars: Tuesday, February 23^rd from 7:00-8:30 PM or Thursday, March 3^rd from 7:00-8:30 PM.

Rotary Pub Night

Dear Rotarians:

Our next Rotary Pub Night (RPN) is Tuesday evening, February 2nd, approximately 4:30 - 6:30 pm at Saybrook Fish House in Canton. Owner Joe Addonizio will provide ample hors d'ouerves, as in the past.

RPN is all about socializing, networking and getting to know your fellow Rotarians and their guests better. Bring your spouses, significant others, partners, friends, prospective Rotarians, socialists, sodalists, soloists, etc.

You may, of course, come and go whenever you want to. Should you wish to eat before, during or after RPN, there are plenty of choices. Click for the Saybrook Fish House menu.
