Paul Harris Fellowships
Joanne Santiago and DG Frank Wargo recognized two of our members with Paul Harris Fellowships.

Brian O'Donnell was very pleased with the first chess day in Hartford.
Bob Cole attended the Business After Hours at Dunning Gravel & Supplies and reported that great time was had by everyone.
Larry Sullivan suggested that Ben Dunning should pay a fine for the mention of his business.
Don Bonner announced that he would soon be a grandfather.
Ben Dunning thanked everyone that attended the Business After Hours including over 250 people from the Burlington and other Chambers of Commerce. He also related the tale of one of his drivers that flipped a tracker trailer loaded with mulch. The driver was thankfully uninjured.
Robin Dinicola said that her son was back to school with a new haircut.
Nancy Nation announced that she had received $500 from Walmart to help with the pencil boxes. She also said that the golf tournament book had gone to press.
Devra Sisitsky had been been in DC at the White House and had an opportunity to see Don Glynn. She has raised $1200 toward the Maker Summit.
Hap Leapman was happy to report that they didn't need to evacuate due to Hermine.
Frank Wargo stated that he had made an extensive study of the alphabet and found that the letters GPS were key to his ability to navigate between his District Governor visits.
Peter Vignati and his wife, Susan, celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary with dinner at the Hopkins Inn.
Gary Miller said he and Debbie were headed off to NJ for his 50th high school reunion.
Tom Voorhees told a tale of his time as District Governor pre-GPS days when he took the wrong exit off the highway.

Rotary Club of Avon-Canton Wine & Cheese Party - September 18th
You are invited to a Wine & Cheese Gathering at: 339 Country Club Rd on Sept 18th (3 to 6 PM). Bob Cave has recently completed the upgrading of this home and is offering our Rotary Club a location for a social get together. In addition to celebrating the completion of this project there will be an opportunity to offer suggestions regarding the Avon/Canton Rotary “Adopt A Guard Sign” in front of this home at 339 Country Club Rd. Please park in front of Hank Frey’s office since there are not enough parking spaces. (395 West Avon Rd.)
Avon Day - September 24th
Avon Day will be September 24th, and 12 Rotarians are needed to assist. As Canton's Sam Collins Day will not be held this year, this is our only chance to do our grill cook imitations.
Rotary Chess Club
Join Paul Mikkelson, Brian O'Donnell and Mike Mezheritskiy Tuesday afternoons at 3:30 PM at the Noah Webster School for some challenging chess and exercise for the mind!
Golf Umbrellas
Nancy Nation announced that this is really, truly, finally our final weekend for advertisements. The standings of our baseball teams and the total amounts raised are : Boston Red Sox $11,220.00, New York Yankees $7,450.00, Hartford Yard Goats $6,670.00, the New Britain Bees, $6,180.00 and New York Mets $5,870.00. We have 127 golfers but there is still time to signup more until the end of next week. There is also still time to find T-sign sponsors. The ad book goes to press next Tuesday.
Golf Umbrellas
President Don Bonner displayed our beautiful new golf umbrellas, to be given to all golf tournament participants and which will be available for sale to members thereafter. An umbrella was presented to our speaker, DG Frank Wargo.
Rotary Foundation
Rotarians are reminded to make their voluntary Rotary Foundation pledge, traditionally done at the time of one's birthday however, the earlier in the Rotary year the better.

District Governor 2016-2017
What has changed in 16 years
District Governor, Frank Wargo, has visited our club several times. He is currently serving his second term as our Governor. The first time was sixteen years ago following our own, Tom Voorhees' term as District Governor in 1999-2000.
Frank is a member of the New Milford club and has had a long and celebrated Rotary career having learned his trade well from "Old Tom". Over the past sixteen years, Frank has been driving the same white Mercedes, which recently clocked 333,333 miles of faithful service. His car is now equipped with GPS. He related his experiences trying to find all the CT clubs without the benefit of that friendly female voice guiding him to the next turn.
As the newly elected club president, Frank has the opportunity to attend the Rotary International Convention in Scotland. He related a speech from a doctor who was about to receive a prestigious award. With her picture displayed on the screen, the doctor talked about a young girl on a blanket in India many years ago, who was so crippled by polio that she couldn't walk The doctor was able to perform surgery that helped ease her condition. To his surprise, the young girl, now a grown woman, appeared on stage and walked to the doctor. Frank was so inspired by this image, that he dedicated himself to help others around the world.
Sixteen years ago, Frank volunteer to become the next District Governor. During that time he has traveled all over the world on a myriad of Rotary missions. Based on his travels, he stated that most Rotarians don't know 95% over the good work that is done worldwide with their Foundation donations. He urged our members to attend the upcoming Foundation Dinner on November 3rd. He also promoted attendance at the District Conference in Providence, RI, starting April 17th. Four districts will be at the conference to hear International President Germ speak.
Everyone at the meeting received a copy of the Frank Wargo Story, a book about his adventures around the world.
