Bill Barnes - has assigned the Red Sox to the Wait 'Til Next Year File. He has been following the Amazing Mets lately, a team he has liked since his time spent in Fairfield County. Bill also recently "survived six hours at Lake Compounce with four grandkids."
Sue Budde - passed out flyers for Dog Star Rescue Day at the Avon Bertucci's. Thursday, August 20, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Bertucci's will give 15% of what you spend to Dog Star Rescue. You need to present the flyer for Dog Star to get the donation. Contact Sue if you do not yet have the flyer.
Gary Hyde - hiked to to Heublein Tower with his three grandkids ages 2, 4.5 and 5.5. He also recently enjoyed two Mets games. Gary asserts "the Mets are doing a great job."
Craig Buhrendorf - enjoyed the recent family reunion which took place in Compton, RI. Fifty-three people attended. Craig and his wife Jeane stayed in a small farmhouse, sharing the yard with twelve turkeys.
Phil Worley - termed the August 4th Pub Night a "big success." (See below for details about the September Rotary Pub Night).
Rollie Sterrett - and his three grandkids, ages 10 to 12, recently played basketball in waist high water. The two granddaughters trashed Rollie and his grandson.
Nancy Nation - detailed several Happy Dollars:
1. An "Outdoor Adventure" Certificate has been received for the Golf Tournament. A Whalers' shirt with several autographs has also come in.
2. Her grandson has gone off to Vancouver for a year of hockey training.
3. Her niece is getting married this weekend.
Evan Cooper - shared that her older son has just graduated from Naval Officer Training in Newport, RI. Her younger son is off to a good start in the Peace Corps.
Robin DiNicola - and family had a "fabulous time" at Water's Edge Resort. She is waiting to hear if Water's Edge will offer something up for the Golf Tournament Raffle/Auction.
Gary Miller - has a grandson who turns 8 today. Gary also told a joke about the seniors' dating scene.

Sam Collins Day - A Message From President Gary
Sam Collins Day is only a month away on September 19th. Every year we have a hot dog and hamburger booth. I'll be passing around a sign-up sheet on the next couple of Fridays.
We need to cover set-up, cooking/serving, and break-down.
9:00-11:00 - Set-up
11:00-1:30 - Cook and serve burgers and hot dogs
1:30-4:00 - Cook/serve and clean-up
If you are unable to attend the meeting on Friday but would like to help out, please email your preferred work shift.

FAMILY PICNIC & PENCIL BOX PROJECT
I hope you all will join us for this fun gathering. In a sense, it will be like those old-fashion barn raisings. We will "put you to work" assembling pencil boxes that will go to the Wish School in Hartford...in time for the opening of school! Then we will have a picnic where everybody brings something yummy.
THIS IS A FAMILY EVENT!

Rotary Pub Night
The next Rotary Pub Night will be held Wednesday, September 2 at the Saybrook Fish House. As you have heard a few times, Rotary Pub Night is all about socializing, networking and getting to know your fellow Rotarians and their guests better. Bring your spouses, significant others, partners, friends, prospective Rotarians, etc. RPN now alternates between Tuesday and Wednesday each month to accommodate Rotarians who can participate on one of those days but not the other.
Avon Day/Amber Alert
Steve Harris shared that Les Zinner has agreed to assist him with Avon Day. Volunteers are needed. Avon Day is scheduled for September 26. Tom Voorhees detailed that there will be an Amber Alert session at Avon Day as well. Tom is also looking for volunteers.
Raffle/Auction
Sue Budde is still looking for raffle and auction items for the Golf Tournament. Please follow up with any business or individual who has given you items in the past.
