Bill Barnes - and wife Pat enjoyed celebrating their 58th Wedding Anniversary. Bill explained that the Ford Edsel came out the day he and Pat returned from their honeymoon. The first year 60,000 Edsels were sold; the second 40,000 and the third 24,000. Production then stopped. The Edsel was the wrong car at the wrong time. The Edsel lasted three years. Bill and Pat's marriage has lasted 58 years and is still going strong. Bill and Pat spent last week in New Hampshire and Maine, places they visited on their honeymoon.
Peter Vignati - and Susanne had a wonderful trip to Germany. Susanne's luggage got lost on the trip home. The airline dropped it off just this week. Peter announced that his son Eric is now engaged to be married. Eric is 24 years old.
Paul Cioffari's - shared that the countdown for his daughter's wedding continues. The guest list is set at 160. This is down from original estimates, but his daughter's philosophy seems to be that the money they're not spending on guests can be spent on other aspects of the nuptials. The wedding will be October 3rd. Paul promises more updates.
Dale Bronson - explained that New Hartford schools started August 27th, and, for the first time, all of his grandkids are in school. Lucius is in 1st grade. Bella is in kindergarten, and Levi has half day pre-school. Dale said it's "great being able to watch the little ones growing up."
Evan Cooper - it meant a lot to Evan that she got to watch her son graduate from Officer Training School in Newport, RI.
Steve Roberto - and son went hiking outside of El Paso and saw "dozens of rattlers." The trip to El Paso was part business/part vacation. Steve has had a great summer. His kids are now back in school.
Don Bonner - is just returned from two weeks at Cape Cod. While there, he attended a meeting of the Hyannis Rotary Club with long time Avon-Canton member Connie Thamm. Don's daughter Sarah made a presentation at that meeting. Sarah has since returned to the Dominican Republic, a country in the path of Hurricane Erica.
Nancy Nation - informed that the the pencil boxes completed at Nancy's house last Friday night (August 21) are at the school and ready for the students. Nancy stated that the Pencil Box Assembly and Picnic was a "great time."
Craig Buhrendorf - explained he was late today because Jeane's Jaguar broke down. Craig welcomed Reed Sterrett to the meeting. He also had a Happy Dollar to honor Rollie Sterrett's retirement.
Larry Sullivan - congratulated Rollie Sterrett on his retirement. Larry also updated on the aftermath of the fire at the car dealership. The re-opening will be in three weeks. Progress is visibly being made. The first bill submitted to the insurance company totaled over $500,000.
John Shea - is now the parent of a high school student.
Gary Miller - as the new Interim Business Manager of the Waterbury Public Schools, Gary was glad to report that all 200 plus busses were ready to go Wednesday morning. School started with a total enrollment of over 19,000 students.

Community Service Committee Meeting
Paul Mikkelson indicated that the monthly Community Services Committee Meeting will take place after the regular September 4th Friday morning meeting.
Golf Auction/Raffle: New Message from Sue Budde
We have less than 3 weeks to go until the golf tournament and I'm still seeking items for the raffle & silent auction. Thanks so much to everyone who has been bringing in items and making follow up phone calls. If you're working on a donation, please let me know the status. If you've secured an item recently, please bring it to our meeting on Friday or make arrangements to get it to me
As luck would have it, I have a commitment the weekend before the tournament, so I'm asking that everyone have their donations to me by Friday, September 11th so I have time to sort and package them.

Golf Ad Deadline
Nancy Nation has set the deadline for golf ads. Everything must be in by this Wednesday, September 2nd. Please e-mail Nancy if you have an ad that you're working on. The ads are "good, but we can do better," according to Nancy. The number of registered golfers stands at 122. We need more. Paul Mikkelson urged members to follow up on ads "five or six times if you have to" because "selling ads this year feels like being a bill collector." Businesses need multiple prompts before the ad money will be forthcoming.
Golf Tournament Dinner
Linda Pendergast - wants volunteers to help in the kitchen and the dining area the day of the Golf Tournament. She says it's a fun afternoon getting ready for the golfers. Please contact Linda to sign up.
Avon Day
Sign-ups are going well for Avon Day, Saturday Sept. 26, behind Pine Grove and Thompson Brook schools in Avon. Steve needs Rotarians to serve and cook food, and then clean up at the end of the day. Please let him know if you can fill the following shifts: 11:00 to 1:00; or 1:00 to 3:00; or 3:00 to closing (includes clean up). Steve outlined that he now has quite a few people who can work the first shift. He especially needs volunteers for the second and third shifts. Steve thanks you in advance for your service!
Sam Collins Day - A Message From President Gary
Sam Collins Day is only a month away on September 19th. Every year we have a hot dog and hamburger booth. I'll be passing around a sign-up sheet on the next couple of Fridays.
We need to cover set-up, cooking/serving, and break-down.
9:00-11:00 - Set-up
11:00-1:30 - Cook and serve burgers and hot dogs
1:30-4:00 - Cook/serve and clean-up
If you are unable to attend the meeting on Friday but would like to help out, please email your preferred work shift.
