Birthdays
Linda Pendergast - June, 30
Linda was the 4th woman to join Avon-Canton Rotary. Over the past few years, she has enjoyed the young people who have joined the club. She has enjoyed being part of the club over the years.
Bill Barnes - July 4
Bill promised he wouldn’t take 40 mins to make his birthday speech. Bill was born on the 160th Independence Day, you can do the math to figure out his age. He showed his plaque from his time as president during 1988-89, which he considers the highlight of his life during Rotary. Bob Cave originally introduced him, when they both had more hair than they do now. He fondly recounted memories of the club over the years and its positive changes and growth, such as allowing women in the club. He thanked Heather for being such a strong leader during a trying time. He ended his birthday speech with a COVID related grocery store joke.
Gary Roman – July, 4
Gary has been a Rotarian for over 20 years and finds our club to be an uplifting way to end every week. As a birthday gift, he requested the club to withhold our vocal “talents” from singing Happy Birthday via Zoom.
Robin DiNicola - July 12
Robin remembers Gary Miller inviting her to the club and she has been so grateful to meet the wonderful members of the group.

Gary Miller
Avon-Canton Rotary Golf Tournament
Golf Club of Avon
Monday, September 14, 2020
Gary held an interactive meeting with the club to update the latest on our Golf Tournament during this unusual year.
Typically advertised as best event “ever” this year we are taking the approach as best event "possible".
Here are the fast facts:
We have 6 weeks to go to make the golf tournament happen
The tournament is in Nancy Nation’s honor and the committee has worked with her family on this.
The volunteer list continues to grow, so far the following Rotarians have committed
Lisa Wright on course beverage coordinator
Sue Budde will be treasurer, collecting monies
Gary Hyde will be course treasurer tracking funds
Don Bonner is working on the brochure and will be sending it out soon
Mark is organizing registration and ticket sales
FAVARH volunteers will help with bags
Jeff Borges & Luke Violette will help with tee signs
Heather volunteered to emcee
Chris Lamadrid is sales team leader captain
Lauren and Yvonne Gardner are doing the putting contest
The golf committee is still looking for volunteers in key roles – Gary will send out emails with what they need.
Concerning Auction & Raffles
There is an ongoing discussion about auctioning trips due to COVID and uncertainty of future travel.
Gifts & raffles this year are also more low key due to current climate
Indoor Dining/Dinner Commitment to Golf Club of Avon
The committee is watching closely on indoor and outdoor dining, and working with the Golf Club on a final “drop dead date” in this regard, so that money is not lost on food.
Sponsors
Gary will be contacting past donors & sponsors
So far, two major sponsors have stepped forward, which has kickstarted our tournament.
Thanks, Gary and The Golf Committee!

3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
