"Many of you have seen new Paul Harris or major donors being awarded. For a little back ground - The Rotary Foundation is recognized as one of the most effective and well managed charitable organizations in the world, with 12 consecutive four-star ratings from Charity Navigator and an A-plus from charity Watch.
As you know, Rotary is dedicated to causes that build international relationships, improves lives, and
creates a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever. The Rotary Foundation transfers our gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.
Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life changing, sustainable projects.The mission helps members to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment and alleviating poverty.
What is expected from us?
It is suggested that we each donate $100 per year. Of course, less and more is fine. The amount can be give to me by check. You can also do Rotary Direct. You can contribute annually or break it up monthly, quarterly, etc. I put forms on the table if you are interested in doing it this way. And yes, if you are doing it on your birthday or anniversary you can still announce it!

You are considered sustaining member when you give $100 or more per year to the annual fund.
Paul Harris Fellow - when you have $1000 or more to the Annual Fund, Polio Plus, or approved Foundation grant. You can also transfer 1000 points in another's name. This is what we have done for the community members.
Multiple Paul Harris Fellow - each $1000 or more given . This is where you see the different stones on the pins.
Major Donor is when you have donated $10, 000. I am proud to say that our club Avon-Canton has a few members at this level.
Above this there are many different categories that are easy to find on the RI web site.
The bottom line, is that whatever you can donate, know it goes so far to help many and a portion of
that is also returned to our district."
Today we have a very special presentation. Because he cannot make the installation dinner we are presenting this today. And it fits in perfect! Tom Voorhees will be assisting me is doing this presentation as we honor Greg DeManche as a Major Donor.
Greg grew up in East Hartford, Connecticut, and has lived in Pennsylvania, New York, Tangier, Morocco, and Indiana before settling in Avon. He earned his B.A. in Social Sciences from Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York, an M.A. in Education and Connecticut secondary school teacher certification from Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut, and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Greg has been in private law practice for 38 years, and is currently the principal attorney at DeManche Law Group, LLC in Avon. He is a Board Certified Residential Real Estate Law Specialist, one of only 12 Connecticut attorneys. Previously, he was a Teacher, coach and dormitory master at the Rectory School in Pomfret, Connecticut, a Director of Athletics, coach and teacher at The American School, Tangier, Morocco, an Assistant Athletic Director, coach and teacher at The Park Tudor School,
Indianapolis, Indiana, Tax Examiner and Senior Analyst at Indiana State Department of Tax and Department of Commerce, Sales and finance executive at United Technologies Corporation, Otis Elevator Company, Indianapolis, Indiana and Farmington, Connecticut.
Greg and his wife Michelle have four children:
Brenden, Senior Manager, Collins Aerospace Systems, a Division of Raytheon Corporation.
Jeffrey, Senior Associate, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Hartford, Connecticut.
Alyssa, Magna Cum Laude UCONN graduate, suicide hotline volunteer and UCONN Health medical scribe, now applying to medical school.
Katelyn, UCONN double-degree matriculating Junior - B.S. in molecular biology and B.S. in chemistry.
