Larry Haber - will be leaving for Florida on Friday June 5. There they will be celebrating Linda's sister's 75th birthday.
Craig Buhrendorf - and Jeane spent last weekend in New York City. Craig highly recommends the 9-11 Museum.
Mark Steier - and Holly spent last weekend in Vienna. They were present for the premiere of an opera staged by Mark's niece.
Evan Cooper - spent Thursday, May 28, at the fish fry release which took place at People's State Forest along the Farmington River. The Club had donated back in January to Trout Unlimited which, in turn, used the allocation to fund a Trout In The Classroom initiative at the Focus School for Autism. Evan stated it was a "great experience to see the kids enjoy something new, and it was great to see our Club's money at work."
Bill Barnes - was happy that so many Rotarians participated in Avon's Memorial Day Parade. He also urged Club members to attend the Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra's outdoor concert Sunday, June 7th, at Miss Porter's School. (The rain location is Farmington High School). The program is titled "Give My Regards To Broadway," and selections will include: Showboat Symphonic Suite, Fascinatin' Rhythm, Overture to Naughty Marietta, Look for the Silver Lining, Give My Regards To George and Send In The Clowns. Bill thanked Larry Sullivan and Mark Steier whose businesses help sponsor the Orchestra.
Devra Sisitsky - informed everyone that her son turned 17 this week, and her daughter's pet is going to have an operation. Devra is also now involved in a 501 C 3 veteran's program that is creating an online portal which will train veterans to become CNC operators.
Phil Worley - projected pictures he took at the Avon Memorial Day parade.
Larry Sullivan - liked the fact that all of Phil's Memorial Day photos were taken with O'Neill Chevrolet in the background.
Thor Cheyne - explained that his daughter graduated from high school last weekend, and his son is beginning a 12 week internship in Los Angeles. Thor also stated that the golf tournament is off to a "positive start."
Sue Budde - detailed that her stepson Ryan developed a serious rash while hiking on the Appalachian Trail in western Pennsylvania. Sue had to coordinate getting Ryan off the mountain and transported to a medical facility in Philadelphia. Sue also invited Club members to help collate, fold and stuff envelopes for the golf tournament's auction and raffle. She would like to do this Friday, June 5th, 9 a.m. at the Canton Chamber of Commerce office. She estimates it will take half an hour to get the job done.
Linda Pendergast - while helping out at a recent Amber Alert session, Linda asked Tom Voorhees how many Amber Alert programs he has coordinated. Tom replied "at least 120." Linda's Happy Dollar was in recognition of Tom's efforts.
Steve Harris - wearing a Chicago Blackhawks jersey, Steve stood up and said "go Hawks!" (The Blackhawks were close to advancing to the finals of the Stanley Cup).
Nancy Nation - stood up and said "go Rangers!" (The Rangers were also close to advancing to the Stanley Cup finals. As well, Nancy announced that golf ads and sponsorships are ahead of last year's pace. She reminded all that this year's motto is "sooner than later."
Announcements
Salin Low - President Salin had several announcements:
* She reminded all that the Rock Cats game was scheduled for that night. $4 from every ticket will go to Rotary's Polio Plus Campaign.
* She stated that next week's meeting will be in the Talcott Room back at Avon Old Farms.
* She encouraged members to attend the District President's Installation Dinner June 16 in Simsbury. Details are available at the District 7890 website.
Tom Voorhees - detailed that there would be an Amber Alert session the evening of May 29. Volunteers were still needed.
Gary Miller - asked for volunteers to alternate weeks as editor of the Early Riser. At the present time, Dale Bronson is the only editor. Gary and Dale are willing to train members who are willing to tackle this responsibility.
Pub Night
Phil Worley - explained that the June Pub Night will be on Wednesday, June 3, from 4 to 7 at the Lyme Grill. Wednesday night was chosen this month to accommodate the Club members who are generally unable to attend on Tuesdays. The Lyme Grill is located in Avon. The July Pub Night will be Tuesday, July 7 at the Crown & Hammer in Collinsville. Attendance at Pub Night entitles members to a make-up in the attendance records.
