Gary Miller was happy for the ski swap at Ski Sundown this weekend.
Yvonne Gardner was happy that she and husband were going on a vacation in Charleston, S.C. Her 83-year old Dad recently retired as a soccer referee. The entire family was there to celebrate his service.
Peter Vignati was glad that men’s and women’s basketball is about to begin.
Phil Ferrari got a new daughter-in-law the prior weekend. They had a great time at the wedding in LaJolla, CA. Phil was proud of his son and daughter-in-law.
Cherie Morris gained a step daughter-in-law (Steve’s son got married) in the rural part of TX during the same weekend.
Sue Budde was happy that her dog Willow came in second for dog Halloween costume. She is sure that the owner of the dog that came in 1st had better social presence.

Unfortunately the New Britain-Berlin Rotary is not selling wreaths this year. You are encouraged to find some other organization selling wreaths. In Canton the Boy Scouts are selling them.
The Avon Interact Club has a project we want to support. You can bring your donations to the meeting on Friday.

Ten Rotarians are requested to serve 2-hour shifts in front of Shop Rite in Canton, soliciting donations of Turkeys, "fixins" and cash for the needy. PresentationEarly Self Detection & Prevention of MelanomaSteve Fine
Steve Fine is a chemical engineer by training. He founded the Melanoma Education Foundation after her son died of melanoma in 1998 at the age of 26. Since 2000 he has spread the word about identifying melanoma while it is still curable. The emphasis has been on reaching students, who tend to think they are invincible, and the message has also been shared with community groups such as Rotary clubs.
Mr. Fine helped us to understand that melanoma is different than basal cell cancer, which occurs more in older adults, is often the result of sunburns, and is generally not fatal. Melanoma can appear at any age, can be located in areas of the body that are not exposed to sunlight, and can be fatal if not discovered at an early stage.
Although it is uncommon in children under 10, melanoma occurs in every age group after puberty. It is the most common type of cancer in the 25 to 29 age group and second only to breast cancer in women ages 20 to 39. Overall, melanoma is the fifth most common cancer in males and sixth in females. The US incidence of melanoma is nearly triple that of new HIV infections and is increasing at an epidemic rate; 196,060 new cases were predicted for 2020. Most new melanoma patients have no family history of the disease; it can strike anyone regardless of health, physical condition, or skin complexion. On the average, there is a melanoma death in the US every 56 minutes.
