No Club members celebrated a birthday at the February 26th meeting, however ... film and television great Jackie Gleason was born on February 26th,1916 in Brooklyn, NY. His Brooklyn upbringing infused every role Gleason ever tackled, whether in film (The Hustler, Papa's Delicate Condition, Smokey and The Bandit...) or television where he created his signature character, bus driver Ralph Kramden. The Great One is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame, and a statue of Ralph Kramden stands outside the Port Authority Bus Terminal at the 40th Street Entrance. Gleason died in 1987.
Happy Dollars
Ben Dunning - was very happy tomake his return to the Club. He had missed two months due to back surgery. The surgery took place in NYC, but Ben was home less than a week later.
Phil Ferrari - saw Mike Sherber on television talking about i-phones and privacy rights.
Craig Buhrendorf - had a "great time" in South Africa. He will be making a presentation April 1st.
Don Bonner - is back from the Dominican Republic where he helped his daughter do some volunteer work. Don stated "it's hard to tell you in a few words. The environment is so different. There is no government whatsoever, but the people are extraordinary." Don hopes to do a presentation about his trip.
Gary Roman - Phil Worley and Gary were sitting by themselves at a table set for ten. Gary asserted that he and Phil were "Lonely Rotarians."
Devra - is relieved to have finished and delivered a 30 page grant application just in the nick of time.
Bill Barnes - the Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra was all set to give two performances of its "3 Silent Movies" concert the next day. Bill gave away two tickets courtesy of Gary Hyde.
Ted Cowles - it's turning out to be a bountiful sap season for Ted and family. Over the last four days, Ted has collected 600 gallons, 600 gallons, 200 gallons and 800 gallons.

TOTV
Gary Hyde has been passing out TOTV tickets for members to sell. See Gary for additional tickets. Also, see Gary when you have ticket money to turn in. If you and your friends would like to purchase VIP tickets, see Chuck Joseph.
Steve Roberto, c0-chair of TOTV, is looking for help with the auction. Volunteers are needed. Items are needed. Steve urges members to go back to the merchants who have given the past. Steve intends to bundle items so that they have more wow factor than they would on their own.
New this year will be the "Wine Pull." Club members may donate wine valued at $20 per bottle. TOTV guests will be able to pull out a bottle of wine to keep. Amongst the $20 bottles will be a handful of expensive wines. This gives guests extra incentive. Members may also give Salin Low monetary donations to buy additional bottles of wine. Phil Ferrari recommends that members buy the wine at M&R Liquors because M&R has been so good to the club since the inception of TOTV.
International Committee
Craig Buhrendorf has announced that the next International Committee meeting will be Friday, March 11th at the completion of the regular meeting.
Community Service Committee
The Community Service Committee will meet this Friday (3/4) at the conclusion of the regular meeting. Community Service meets the first Friday of every month.

Rotary Pub Night

Rotary Pub Night (RPN) was held yesterday evening, March 1st at Max a Mia in Avon. The April Rotary Pub Night will be held April 5th at Abigail's. You may check out the Abigail's menu at abigailsgrill.com.
RPN is all about socializing, networking and getting to know your fellow Rotarians and their guests better. Bring your spouses, significant others, partners, friends, prospective Rotarians, etc.
You may, of course, come and go whenever you want to. Should you wish to eat before, during or after RPN, there are plenty of choices at Abigail's. Contact Phil Worley for more information.

Dear District 7890 Members - Get Ready!!
The District Conference is planned for April 29 to May 1st at the Cape Codder Resort & Spa in Hyannis, MA. Our theme is Hawaii 7890.
The Cape Codder Resort & Spa is right off the highway and offers convenient parking. We plan to begin on Friday evening at 6 pm with a cocktail hour followed by a delicious Luau dinner.
We are also planning an exciting evening of entertainment. More to come on that.
On Saturday our general session at will begin at 9:00 am with registration and breakfast starting at 7:30 am. Saturday will be filled with exciting breakouts, as well as our Rotaract Conference. If you have a Rotaract Club or are thinking of starting one, be sure to be part of this. Youth exchange students and the South African VTT teams will also be presenting.
It’s been a great year for District 7890 and we plan to celebrate with fellowship and informative breakout sessions. And if anyone can inspire enthusiasm, it's our Rotaractors, Youth exchange students, and VTT teams; they’re an exciting bunch.

In order for Rotary Clubs to qualify for District and Global grants, two people from your club must be qualified by attending a Grant Qualification Webinar. This year we are combining the District and Global Grant qualification into one webinar. Attendance by 2 members from your club is part of the qualification process in order to apply for grants for the 2016-2017 Rotary year.
Attendees can still register for the webinar on Thursday, March 3rd from 7:00-8:30 PM.

Farmington Valley American Muslim Center
Noora Brown, Coordinator of the Farmington Valley American Muslim Center's annual Martin Luther King Day Foodpacking Event, presented Club President Gary Miller with a Certificate of Appreciation which reads:
In recognition of your participation in and contribution to the 2016 FVAMC Foodpacking Event. Your efforts helped us to package 38,600 meals which were donated to local food pantry shelves in Avon, Canton, Bristol, Winsted, Torrington, Plainville and Hartford. We coudn't have fed so many people without the volunteers and monetary support of organizations such as yours. We thank you for your partnership and look forward to working with you again next MLK weekend.
Noora estimates that the Club's donation paid for 2,000 meals.
