Birthdays:

Yvonne Gardner December 17, Not Present

Ann Clark December 19,  noted that she is the "leader of the women in the club who she guards over as she is the oldest female in the club."  She reports that she in north of the 80 mark.  She also wants everyone to know that they really are her family.  She is still working as it keeps her out of trouble and she loves it.  The club stood and gave a toast to our Queen Mother!!!!

Mike Mezheritskiy December 21, Our tech guru (who managed to avoid having his picture taken, since he also is the club photographer) has been a member since 2013 and was president in the 18 -19 year.  This is the place for me on Fridays although  his kids think he does Rotary for a living (I thought so as well).  The best part of his birthday is that he gets to share it with his daughter who arrived 15 minutes before the date change.

Tom Voorhees - Christmas Eve Baby -   Tom has given up celebrating birthdays as he has had too many of them.  This is Tom's 48 year in Rotary as he is a charter member of our club.

Chuck Joseph - Christmas Day - Not Present

Happy Dollars

Gary Miller is heading off after this meeting to see his oldest daughter and 3 grandsons, who he has not been able to see since August.

Dave Tedeschi, Assistant District Governor, spoke about the 3 hour monthly district governor's meeting where our praises are sung for the phenomenal work we do.  He noted that he thought Simsbury was a little a head of us, a sentiment that was vehemently disagreed with.

Gary Hyde had $50 Happy Dollars for the Salvation Army,  $10 for each of his 5 grandchildren, who he will be with this weekend.

Salin Low was very happy that we have musical accompaniment, as having just her is really a problem.  Salin was wondering if Simsbury might be a little bit better because they stole Paul Mickelson, because he is and was such an important part of our club.

Phil Ferrari gave a happy dollar that he was supposed to give last week after he had spoken to Paul Mickelson, who wanted everyone to know how much he missed us.  He is here now (Zoom) so he can speak for himself, if wants to.

Paul Mickelson, wanted everyone to know how much he misses everyone.  Even though he is a member,  he doesn't believe that Simsbury is better.  Avon-Canton ROCKS!  Paul reports that is fine, in spite of being hospitalize.  He had some issues stemming from the bladder cancer surgery he had 4 years ago.  His grandson tommy who has Cystic Fibrous is doing well and is now 2 years old.

Jennifer Gonzalaz was happy to be here for the last meeting of the year.  She hopes to have better attendance next year.  She is also happy that her mother is visiting.

Bob Cave was happy for the reminder of just how great Rotary is and to Don for the prayer he gave as our invocation.

Announcements

Phil Ferrari announced that we have met our Salvation Army fund raising goal.

Toys, non perishable foods, and gift cards are still needed for the Dish n'Dat.  Since we are not meeting again this year, please drop off contributions at the restaurant.  Cash donations are also welcome so they can fill in with purchases.

Induction of New Members

Carlo Geddo was inducted into Rotary Membership.  Please welcome him to our club.

None this week.

Community and International Service Grants

A grant of a $1,000 was given to Dress for Success - Hartford and accepted by their Executive Director Sarah Avatapalli.  The funds will be used to buy interview clothes as part of their effort to help the women that they serve enter the workplace. Heather Pantano, who has worked with this organization for years, sponsored the request.

Our own Steve Morris accepted a $1,500 grant to FAVARH for the purchase of dashboard cameras to improve the safety of the clients as they are transported to programs.  FAVARH has 60 vehicles and safe driving is a major initiative.

“The FOUR-WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do”:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all Concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
