Ann Clark was very sad to see Big Papi retire from the Red Sox.
Salin Low had many thank yous for all the cards, meals and Bill's service at St. Albans. Bill's ashes will be interred at the South Kent School along with dirt from Fenway Park.
Bill Barnes pointed out the flyer for the Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra's 2016-17 concert season. The next performance is Magnificent Mahler on Sunday at the Lincoln Theater at University of Hartford.
Peter Vignati is back from vacation with his wife in Northern Italy on Lake Maggiore. Peter also rued the loss of Arnold Palmer whom he met years ago. Peter was participating in the Alzheimer Walk at Rentschler Field.

The Rotary Foundation Dinner will be held at Chez Josef in Agawam on November 3rd. The dinner always has great speakers. Joanne Santiago encourages our members to attend at club expense. Carpooling can be arranged for anyone wishing to share a ride.

Joanne Santiago requested nominations for nonmember Paul Harris Awards. Rotarians are reminded to make their voluntary Rotary Foundation pledge, traditionally done at the time of one's birthday, however, the earlier in the Rotary year the better. World Polio Day is October 24th. Happy Dollars will go to Polio Plus to be matched 2:1 by the Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation.

Steve Roberto, Taste of the Valley event chair, announced that April 1st has been chosen as the tentative date for TOTV 2017. The committee is exploring a change in music and needs someone to organize the auction.

The Prince Thomas of Savoy Society will celebrate its 100th anniversary this coming year. The Society occupies the club house on Old Farms Road just south of O'Neill's Chevrolet dealership. Max invited our members to visit on Saturday, October 22nd, for the Avon Italian Club Food Fair.
Theodate Pope Riddle, who had survived the sinking of the Lusitania, returned to her home in Farmington in 1917. She wanted to build a school. The school she designed, Avon Old Farms, was built by many of the Italian immigrants that lived in Avon. They had the skills that were needed to craft the style building that Theodate wanted. Over 550 men came together to cut the lumber, quarry the stone, build the roads, railroad station, power plant, and the school structures. Most the prominent Italian families in our area stemmed from these workers.
