The Case for Embracing Mature Workers

Bob Cave had the privilege of introducing Robin Clare who is the Executive Director of the Seniors Job Bank, which our club supports. Robin champions the mission to link mature workers with employers seeking capable and dependable talent. Robin's background includes Human Resources and Non-profit Administration. She is a certified national speaker and a seasoned podcaster.

Robin has established three self-improvement centers for adults, authored 5 books on individual healing and growth, and was recognized as one of the ten Best Life Coaches in Connecticut for seven years. She passionately advocates for the growing senior population, empowering them to remain vibrant, mentally sharp, physically fit, financially secure and to stay in their own homes.

By 2030, one in five Americans will be 65 or older, representing a significant demographic shift. More mature workers are staying in or rejoining the workforce, whether for financial reasons or to stay active and engaged. In the Avon-Canton area specifically, over 13,000 people are over 50 years old, presenting an opportunity to embrace mature workers.

Benefits of hiring mature workers

Mature workers bring valuable expertise, experience, and problem-solving skills. They also provide workplace stability, reliability, and loyalty, which can lead to greater customer satisfaction. Hiring mature workers also enhances diversity and combats ageism in the workplace.

Strategies for employers to embrace mature workers

Employers can create a win-win workplace by implementing age-friendly policies like flexible schedules, part-time roles, and phased retirement. They should also focus on the health and well-being of mature workers, promote lifelong learning, foster a culture of inclusion, and adapt performance management to the needs of mature workers.

How the Senior Job Bank can support businesses

The Senior Job Bank has 938 active job seekers and is projected to have 1,100 by the end of the year. They serve businesses, municipalities, nonprofits, and individuals, connecting mature workers with full-time, part-time, temporary, and volunteer opportunities. The speaker encourages businesses in the Avon-Canton area to post their job openings with the Senior Job Bank to take advantage of this valuable talent pool.

Robin expressed gratitude for the Avon-Canton Rotary's steadfast support of the Senior Job Bank, which has been crucial to its growth and success. She is excited about the future of their partnership and thanks the club for being an integral part of the organization.

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all Concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
