We are happy to welcome Peter Savino as the newest member of the the Avon-Canton Rotary Club.  He was received into membership by President Deb on November 22nd.

Peter enlisted in the US Navy in 1975 and received Advanced Electronic training as a Sonar Technician.  After the service he had many roles in the technology arena working for Rockwell International, ITT and Aspect Telecommunications.

As a proud Veteran, Peter says, "I am honored to be an Officer in the Avon VFW Post 3272 with the tasks of honoring past and present members, and providing service and support to these veterans where needed. I am also a member of the local American Legion Post."

He notes that his wife, the former Heidi Boos, grew up in Avon and graduated from  Avon HS and Bentley College.  "After outgrowing our condo in Bristol 28 years ago," he reports, "we moved to our house in Avon and are proud parents of a grown son and daughter, a Chef and Teacher."

A very meaningful part of Peter's life is his work raising funds for organizations like the American Lung Association and the Tunnel to Towers Organization that grew out of the 9/11 terrorist attacks at New York City's Twin Trade Towers.  "This organization has premier tower climbs that I have enjoyed being a part of," says Peter.  "I have completed multiple of these climbing events in an effort to raise money for the cause. The opportunity to climb 104 stories in the Freedom Tower in NYC with everyday heroes, Military and First Responders, and raise money for T2T is truly a blessing."

As one who very much enjoys volunteering and reaching out to those in need, Peter says "I am looking forward to being active in the community working with fellow Rotarians."

We also very much look forward to having Peter working among us and are delighted to welcome him as a new Avon-Canton Rotarian.
